Please join Pamela Quinn, Teacher of Yoga, Kundalini, Meditation & Ayurveda for an impactful immersive experience into the prevention and maintenance of Anxiety. This experience is designed for those age 14 and up and not over 24. You will be given a daily practice including movement, meditation, and breath work. You will learn a daily routine and nutrition based in the science of Ayurveda to care for yourself. You will learn about the mind and safely explore your anxiety.
From Pamela, “When I was a little girl, my anxiety was so bad I would hide in a closet under blankets so no one would find me. I had few friends and spent most of my time playing alone or with pets. As I grew to be a teen I became depressed. Anxiety leads to depression. When I look back now on those dark days, I wish I had access to anything that would have made me feel better. I didn’t even know I had anxiety and I didn’t know what depression was until much later in life. Luckily we now live in a time when folks are speaking up. I cannot give you a cure for anxiety. I can give you access to the tools you need to live a high quality and productive life.
Dear Parents, Thank you for entrusting the care of your child to me. I desire to partner with you in this experience and will provide 2 sets of materials for your child, one for them and one for you. Please read these materials to support your child’s practice. Your child’s practice will include yoga, meditation, pranayama, mantra, chanting, and a change to their routine and diet. Yoga is a spiritual practice and the teaching of this course are based in yoga. Your family may need to change it’s routine and diet to support your child and help your child make consistent choices. I will make myself available to you from 4 – 5 pm during our combined education session. Please plan for both parents or the parent who cooks and organizes to attend.
Each class will have meditation and prenatal/postnatal yoga for all levels. There will also be a focus on breath work and pelvic floor strengthening throughout the series.
Liz Viviano (200RYT) is a mother of three and has over 40 years of yoga experience. She is certified in pre- and postnatal yoga and has witnessed the ability of yoga to promote a healthy pregnancy, easier labor and delivery, and a quick recovery.
Kundalini Yoga is a very unique form of yoga. The teacher wears white, but you never have to. Each class begins by “tuning in” with the Adi Mantra, or the “first mantra.” You can join in or listen. You then do a warm up which varies. Next you move into a “kriya.” A kriya is a designated set of postures designed to elicit a very specific effect in the body, mind, or spirit. After you kriya, you will lie down for a rest.
When you sit up you will experience a meditation of 3 – 31 minutes depending on the class. The meditations generally involve sitting in easy pose (see the image), placing your hands in a certain way, and focusing on various points of the body, movements of the body, breath, music, or mantra and sometimes all of those.
Our teachers are all certified teachers in Kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan. Kundalini yoga can be quite difficult. The good news is if you find you can’t do a pose or hold it for the specified time, you simply imagine you are in the pose, try to stay with the breath, and you still receive the benefit. We call it “leaning in the right direction.” Energetically, Kundalini is the creative force of the universe or the Shakti, or if you are Christian, the Holy Guost.
